Major column shoe project by Peikko Benelux

The columns used in the building are 33 meters high, which sets a new record. There are altogether 35 columns with Peikko column shoes that have been produced by Peikko Germany. Supporting the very high columns during mounting seemed a problem at first. Very heavy studs are required when using traditional concrete columns with rebar anchorage, and an additional crane is needed for installation. However, Willy Naessens knew the Peikko products from a previous project and decided to use column shoes to avoid the use of studs. Special column shoe groups were produced for all the columns. For the installation, only one crane was needed and it only took one hour to unload one column from the truck and to install it in place - talk about quick and easy! For fixing the columns to the foundation, Peikko Benelux also delivered anchor bolts PPM 45 E-950.

The new, fully automatic warehouse will be used for the transhipment of tropical fruits. For all columns, special column shoe groups were produced. For instance, for the column shoe group for the column with a dimension of 600 mm x 1200 mm, a steel plate measuring 600 mm x 1200 x 60 mm was made. On the top of this plate, 12 column shoes (PPKM 45-2320) were welded with a total of 40 rebars. For the installation of the columns, only one crane was needed and the work proceeded very quickly.
