Peikko Group’s Finnish subsidiary Peikko Finland Oy has received a substantial order for the composite frame of the new children’s hospital to be built in Helsinki, Finland. The order comprises 4.7 kilometers of DELTABEAM® Composite Beams and around 530 tons of Composite Columns and other steel structures. The deliveries start in November 2015 and end in summer 2016. The new children’s hospital focuses on the care of severely ill children from entire Finland. The aim is to build the best possible hospital to the children and their care takers.
SRV Construction Ltd is responsible of the construction. Structural design is made by Ramboll Finland Oy and the architectural planning by a joint project of Sarc Architects Ltd and Architect Group Reino Koivula Inc. The building will have a basement and 8 stories and a total area of 50.000 m2. The basement and floors 1 to 3 are made in-situ. The frame for the floors 4 to 8 are made by Peikko’s Composite Frame solution combined with solid slabs.
”Today modern hospitals require a fair amount of space below the floor slab for demanding technical installations. The composite structure formed by Peikko’s frame and a solid slab was the slimmest precast type solution for this building. It is comparable to an in-situ structure, but offers in addition flexibility in the layout, which is needed in the patient rooms on floors 4 to 8”, states Olli Aho, Design Manager at SRV Construction Ltd.
”We are proud to be part of this important project. Flexibility in layout solutions and fast construction were important factors when planning the children’s hospital. Our Composite Frame offers a great solution to meet these needs”, states Esa Rusila, Managing Director of Peikko Finland Oy.
