Peikko Group Corporation has signed a significant agreement with Zhangjiagang Economic & Technology Development Zone, ZETDZ, to further strengthen its long-term business commitment in China. Michal Horak, Vice President, Peikko APAC and Mr. Gu Weibin, Deputy Director of ZETDZ signed the agreement on the 27th of March 2020 accompanied by other officials from ZETDZ and members of Peikko China’s Management Team. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the signing ceremony was shared online and Topi Paananen, CEO of Peikko Group attended the event remotely from Finland.
The first concrete action of the agreement is the expansion Peikko’s factory area by 5,000 m2, making it to cover 15,000m2 in total. Peikko will increase its capacity for DELTABEAM® composite beams and precast connections due to growing demand from the Asia Pacific markets and China itself. Most of the Peikko China’s output is delivered already to this area, and Peikko expects double-digit growth in the years to come.
Secondly, Peikko will systematically invest in research and development in China. One example of this development was Peikko China’s recent introduction of bolted connections technology into Chinese market. The new way to construct is drawing increasing attention and interest, especially after the first ever precast project was delivered in 2019 and the first industry standards defining design with bolted connections became valid from the beginning of 2020. Peikko’s new agreement shows its strong confidence in this giant economy and market. Precast market will continue to be on the fast-growing curve driven by the ambitious goal of the nation to move construction industry towards a greener and more eco-friendly solutions.
“We are more than happy to facilitate Peikko from government perspective to grow efficiently. We believe Peikko’s technology will help us to realize country’s vision on building industrialization,“ says Gu Weibin, Deputy Director of ZETDZ.
“Even if we are currently having this extremely challenging time with COVID-19, Peikko keeps going forward. We see the potential and dynamism of the market, which is why we want to strengthen our business operations in the APAC area, and especially in China. The signed agreement provides us with the more efficient production premises and improved opportunities for new investments. In China, the authorities have done successful work to limit the spreading of COVID-19, and Peikko is very pleased with the proactive support provided by ZETDZ”, comments Michal Horak, Vice President, Peikko APAC.
