Peikko’s WELDA® Anchor Plates receive ETA approval and CE marking

Peikko’s WELDA® Anchor Plates have been issued ETA-16/0430 (European Technical Assessment). The ETA has been issued by DIBt (Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik) and it is based on extensive and demanding product tests conducted by VTT Expert Services Oy. At present Peikko is the only European company in the industry that can deliver anchor plates with an ETA based CE marking.

Anchor plates do not have a harmonised European standard (hEN), but the manufacturer can obtain a CE marking for such a product through the ETA process. An ETA enables the design and use of the products in the European Economic Area, so local product approvals are no longer needed. The ETA issued to Peikko covers anchor plates manufactured also according to customer specifications, so project specific approval processes can be avoided when using WELDA® Anchor Plates. Therefore, WELDA® Anchor Plates make the design process faster and more efficient.

Precast products used in the European Economic Area must have CE marking. There are anchor plates on the market that have CE marking based on an EN 1090 certified manufacturing process. They do not cover all the relevant construction products regulations, such as mechanical resistance in concrete. That is why an EN 1090 based CE marking does not contain the requirements of safe design and use of anchor plates, and is therefore misleading as well as illegal, according to Peikko. This is supported by CEN (European Committee for Standardization) and Tukes (Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency), according to whom CE marking of anchor plates cannot be based on the harmonized standard EN 1090.

“Peikko’s aim is to market products and solutions that are safe and easy to use. In the case of WELDA® Anchor Plates, ETA based CE marking shows that WELDA® Anchor Plates are tested and approved. Thus, designers and contractors can be sure that WELDA® Anchor Plates fulfil the demands set by the authorities for anchor plates” states Topi Paananen, the CEO of Peikko Group Corporation.
