DELTABEAM® Maximizes Building Levels While Complying with a City's Height Limits

The Carlisle Square project is a highly anticipated addition to the downtown St. Catharines area. This new 19-storey residential apartment building promises to provide residents with spacious living areas and a variety of amenities that cater to their individual needs.

A significant amount of headroom has been gained in this project through the use of the DELTABEAM® system. DELTABEAM® Composite Beam's slim design allows for a shallower structural depth, which increases usable space between floors. This extra headroom translates to more flexibility in the design of the building and can be particularly useful in residential settings where residents want to have more open and airy living spaces.

In addition, DELTABEAM® does not require fireproofing. Due to its inherent fire resistance, it can withstand high temperatures without losing its structural integrity during a fire. Consequently, there is no need for fireproofing, which saves time and money.

DELTABEAM® also provides greater design flexibility. The system's slim design allows for greater flexibility in the design of the building's layout. This flexibility can be particularly useful in mixed-use buildings where there may be a need for a variety of different floor plans.

The DELTABEAM® system allowed for each dwelling unit to have floor-to-ceiling windows. As a result of the system's slim design, a shallower structural depth is achieved, which allows for larger windows to be installed. Floor-to-ceiling windows can provide a greater sense of openness and light, which can be particularly beneficial in residential settings.

Ack Architects Inc were selected as architects for the Carlisle Square project by Nickel Developments, who are both the developer and general contractor.

Hallex Engineering Ltd are the structural engineers, Walters Group supplied and erected the columns while Bailey Metal Products Limited was the long span metal deck supplier.

This complex will provide 228 new dwelling units in an area with a high population growth rate and is expected to be completed by 2024.
