Highest assembled DELTABEAM® in Europe.

More storeys, quick assembly and integrated R 120 fire protection

According to its developers, EDGE East Side Berlin is intended to contribute to the well-being and health of its residents and users. The idea behind this is that buildings can offer added value for healthy living and working through user-centred and environmentally conscious design. A corresponding certification in Well Gold Core & Shell and DGNB Platinum is therefore being sought for the "healthy" high-rise building.

EDGE East Side is located near the Warschauer Strasse underground station. It is the connecting element between the districts of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. The 140 metre high building has a gross floor area of 80,000 m² and 65,000 m² of office space. It was designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). It combines the requirements of modern urban planning with natural elements, creating inviting and airy spaces that allow maximum design freedom throughout the building's entire life cycle.

Leading sustainability practices were also taken into account during the planning and construction of EDGE East Side. These include the use of recyclable products and VOC-free materials as well as intelligent energy management of the building.

Maximum compatibility and fast construction

Peikkos DELTABEAM® composite beam was used for the building. As a floor-to-ceiling composite beam for multi-storey buildings of all kinds, it is compatible with all floor systems and is characterised by high load-bearing capacities combined with large spans. No or only minimal supports are required during assembly, meaning that multi-storey buildings can be erected quickly with minimal labour. DELTABEAM® fulfils all the requirements of the required construction method: Definitely no joints in the area of the HVAC installation and also otherwise a joist-free construction method, designed for a fire resistance class of R 120 - i.e., high-rise standard. The integrated reinforcement in the beam guarantees lifelong fire protection without recurring maintenance or additional coating.

Slim-Floor: Gaining space and saving CO₂

The use of DELTABEAM® saved several centimetres of room height per storey, as the technical building equipment could be routed flush under the ceiling. In contrast to a classic reinforced concrete solution, 10, 20 or even 30 cm of joists would certainly have remained visible under the ceiling. This would have meant that at a height of 140 metres, you would not be standing on the 37th floor, but rather on the 34th floor. The reduction in cubic metres per square metre achieved in this way reduces heating and cooling costs and therefore CO₂ emissions.
