The large Lake Turkana 365-turbine wind farm is Africa’s largest so far constructed south of Sahara, and it is the largest single investment in Kenya’s history.

Peikko’s wind turbine foundation solution delivery consists of 365 pcs of Anchor Cages. The Anchor Cages are formed by Anchor Bolts, Anchor Rings and Template Rings. Peikko is also responsible for the foundation design and structural calculations.

The Lake Turkana Wind Power projects located in Loiyangalani District, Marsabit County, Kenya comprises of 365 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 850kW, and a high voltage substation that has been connected to the Kenyan national grid through an associated Transmission Line; constructed by the Kenyan Government. The wind turbines, each with a capacity of 850 kW, are supplied by Vestas, one of the leading turbine manufacturers. The turbine foundations are constructed by Enterprise Generale Malta Forrest Kenya.

The large Lake Turkana 365-turbine wind farm is Africa’s largest so far constructed south of Sahara, and it is the largest single investment in Kenya’s history. The Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) project aims to provide 300 MW of reliable, low cost wind power to the Kenya national grid, equivalent to approximately 20% of the current installed electricity generating capacity.

The wind farm site covers 162 km². The area has excellent wind conditions and the utilization rate of the turbines is estimated to rise up to 55%, when the corresponding figure in Europe varies between 20 and 40%.
